General Responsibility Description:

Elgin Wayside Center (EWC), a division of Wayside Cross Ministries, seeks a part-time (20 hours per week) Program Assistant to assist with daily tasks and operation of our Day Center in Elgin to serve clients. Elgin Wayside Center is a Bible-based, Christ-centered ministry that offers food, clothing, showers, laundry facilities, daily Bible studies, and other resources to those experiencing homelessness.

The Program Assistant will:

1. Help to maintain good order among clients to include signing clients in, monitoring client sign-up for daily services (ie; showers, laundry, etc.), providing clients with resources related to services, insuring clients are ready for Bible studies, assisting with “counter service” to clients, coordinating client “chores,” opening and closing the facility as needed, and performing other client-related tasks as directed by the Program Coordinator.

  1. Work with “counter service” volunteers on a daily basis as they help to serve clients. This included assisting volunteers who prepare and/or serve lunch – as needed.
  2. Work with clients to develop goal-oriented strategies to move from a state of homelessness to self-sufficiency and monitor progress toward achieving those goals.
  3. Help manage receipt and recording of non-monetary donations received at the Center.
  4. Perform tasks of the Program Coordinator in the event of extended absence of the Program Coordinator.
  5. Perform other tasks as directed by the Program Coordinator and/or Director.

Qualifications:

– Must be connected to and actively involved in a Bible-believing, Christ-centered church.

– Must be fluent and bi-lingual in Spanish.

– Must be in agreement with the Wayside Cross Ministries Statement of Faith and the Statement of

  Belief on Marriage and Sexuality.

– Applicants must be male.

– Previous experience in ministry (volunteer or salaried) preferred.

Applicants must also be in agreement with the ministry’s Vision, and Mission statement, Core Values, Statement of Faith, Code of Conduct, and have a heart for the people we serve.

Compensation: To be determined by the Executive Director of Wayside Cross Ministries, based on experience
