Meet Randy Johnson

. . . how this retired Motorola executive is making a difference.

“After 30+ years in the corporate world, I knew I had more to give. Turns out a little faith and a few success principles I build my own life on were just what people in recovery needed to help rebuild theirs.”

A retired Motorola Human Resources executive, Randy Johnson firmly believes that “personal mission statements” are valuable tools.

In fact, it was Randy’s own personal mission statement, “to love, enjoy, affirm, and be near God, family, and friends; maximize my investment of time, health, energy, and money,”  that led him to become a volunteer with Wayside Cross’ Master’s Touch Ministry.

He also found inspiration in his personal handbook to life, his family Bible.

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. ~ Galatians 6:2

Like many of our volunteers, Randy had become familiar with Wayside Cross Ministries over the years. But it wasn’t until recently that Randy, who serves as a volunteer with numerous other organizations, found himself with the time available to consider opportunities to serve at Wayside.

Our Master’s Touch Ministry Director, Randy Tomassi, “jumped at the chance” to add Randy Johnson to a team comprising dozens of mature Christian men.  Our mentors all come from the Body of Christ and help drive our Bible-based, Christ-centered residential program of life-restoration. They aid and bear witness to the transformation of men seeking a permanent solution to the crisis of a broken life resulting from drugs, alcohol, or some other destructive behavior pattern.

“A Christ-centered mission statement is a powerful tool in aiding an individual’s recovery and overall success in life. There’s something about putting it down on paper, in your own words, that turns ideas into commitments…” says Randy.
On a regular basis, Randy Johnson now meets one-on-one with 11 of our program graduates to help them craft their own personal mission statements, and to lay out the initiatives which, over the next three to five years, will enable their mission and vision to be achieved. What a blessing this has been for our grads!

“Investing a little time in others is a great way to stay active and productive . . . I’m so glad I found a place to serve at Wayside. In many ways it’s been the most rewarding experience of my life.”

Ask Randy today if he still has those 20 words he wrote down many years ago and he will carefully pull out a tiny scrap of paper, worn over the years and say, “Of course”!

If you’ve ever thought about doing missionary work or considered sharing your faith and life skills with others, Wayside Cross may be the perfect place for you, either as a mentor or through a business, life-skills or career development program.

With six ministries to serve in, from the chronically homeless, or a recovery program for men, helping abused and addicted women and their children develop new job skills and opportunities, assisting our prison ministry, or working with at-risk youth, there is something for you here.

Learn More. Give More.

We thank our Lord for using all of the faithful volunteers who invest in the lives of our Master’s Touch residents, to His Glory.

DO YOU HAVE A MISSION TO SERVE?

Volunteers at Wayside Cross play a crucial role in the transformational process of men, women, and children in our care. Join one of our six ministries dedicated to serving men broken by life and addiction, abused and addicted women or moms with children who need a safe place to stay. We also need faithful people who are led to minister to the imprisoned or assist at-risk youth who need afterschool opportunities to grow and develop, teach new job skills and mentor in our ministry, help serve meals in our kitchens, or assist in one of our two thrift shops.

Join us in helping to transform lives.
